BREAKING: MTG Makes Major Move Against Ilhan Omar

Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is hoping to build on her success of censuring members of the liberal “Squad” over antisemitic statements, announcing Thursday that she would be adding Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to the target list.

Speaking from the House floor, Greene addressed the many ways the Minnesota Democrat, who is Muslim, violated her oath of office by promising to stand up for Somalia, her home country, over the United States, and discounting the suffering of Israelis at the hands of Hamas.

“Whereas elected members of Congress take an oath to bear true faith and allegiance to the United States without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion. Whereas Republican Ilhan Omar took an oath of allegiance to the United States upon becoming a citizen declaring, ‘I absolutely and entirely renounce and adjure all allegiance to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen,” Greene read from behind a podium.

“Whereas on January 7th, 2024, Representative Omar gave remarks at an event in Minneapolis where she made treasonous statements. Whereas Representative Omar said she has spoken to many Somalians who asked her to intercede for the Somali government by pressuring the United States government into certain actions,” she continued.

Rep. Omar’s remarks resurfaced earlier this week, drawing her into a heated discussion around her nationality and whether she had stated she was prioritizing the Somali people over Americans.

According to a translated video, the Squad member spoke passionately about her work in Congress to represent Somalians and push back against formal recognition of Somaliland, an unrecognized state in the Horn of Africa that has struck land deals with neighboring states. Rep. Omar said it is up to the U.S. to ensure that Somaliland does not receive formal recognition and supports the struggle of ethnic Somalians to take back their country from a corrupt government — and even other ethnicities.

“A couple of days ago, we heard some people who call themselves Somalis (Somaliland) or claim to be Somalis have signed a [memorandum of understanding] with Ethiopia on access to the sea… Many Somalians have personally called me to encourage me to speak to the U.S. government and help Somalia,” she said.

“The U.S. government will only do what Somalians in the U.S. tell them to do,” she continued. “They must do what we want and nothing else… The U.S. is a country where one of your daughters (myself) is in Congress to represent your interests.”

“Sleep in comfort, knowing I am here to protect the interests of Somalia from inside the U.S. system… Together we will protect the interests of Somalia.”

The missteps by Omar are the latest in a string of questionable statements made that have provoked the wrath of conservative media outlets and catapulted her into coverage by mainstream media outlets. In October, she grew visibly frustrated with a female reporter who tagged along at multiple events to ask her about justice for victims of Hamas’s October 7th attack against Israel.

“How many more killings is enough for you?” Omar shouted. “Is it a thousand more? Two thousand more? Three thousand? How many more Palestinians would make you happy if they died? Would you be fine if all of the people of Gaza were gone?”

“Would that make you happy? Would that be the thing that makes you proud?” she added before storming off.

Greene, who successfully led the censure of Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MN) in November, is intent on dealing the same blow to Omar.

“Whereas these statements by Representative Omar clearly violate the oath she took as an elected member of Congress to protect and defend the United STATES Constitution,” she emphasized.

The resolution will now move to House leadership where Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will consider its timing for an eventual vote.
