49ers QB Brock Purdy Discusses His Strong Christian Faith Ahead Of Super Bowl LVIII

San Francisco 49ers quarterback and NFL MVP finalist Brock Purdy discussed his strong Christian faith ahead of Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas.

While sitting down for an interview with Sports Spectrum, Purdy was asked if his success has given him the platform to be able to express his faith and spread the word of God to millions of people. “Yeah, I think the media for sure, there was questions brought up in terms of like, you know, ‘how do you do it? ‘ And for myself, it was, honestly, you want the truth? Because this is the truth. And I’m not going to just say a worldly answer of, I look in the mirror every night and I tell myself I’m good. It’s none of that,” the NFC champion said.

“It’s man, this is who God has called me to be and I’ve believed that from day one. I’ve believed that Jesus Christ did come down and died for my sins and rose again. And he’s living. He’s living and sitting beside God on the throne. And so I believe that. It’s not just some story, fairy tale thing, it’s real,” he continued. “It allows me to stay level-headed and real with life and I know what my purpose is. That all has allowed me to play my game and has allowed me to play football at this level.”

Purdy went on to tell the outlet that win or lose, he will still use his platform to glorify God.

The quarterback — who rose to become his team’s starting quarterback after starting the 2022/2023 season as a third-string option — has repeatedly used his platform to affirm his faith since getting the starting job.

While speaking to reporters following the 49ers’ win over the Detroit Lions in the NFC championship game, Purdy credited his faith in God for the team’s dramatic comeback victory. “So when I’m down 17 at half, honestly, I’m just thinking, ‘All right God, You’ve taken me here, and win or lose I’m going to glorify You.’ That’s my peace, that’s the joy, that’s the steadfastness — that’s where I get it from. And that’s the honest truth. So I leaned into that and sure enough, we were able to come back,” he said.
