Riley Gaines, Women Athletes File Lawsuit Against NCAA’s Transgender Policy

Swimming and women’s rights advocate Riley Gaines, along with 15 other athletes, is suing the NCAA over its transgender policy.

The policy permits biologically born men to compete as women and use female facilities, impacting female athletes’ opportunities.

Organized by the Independent Council on Women’s Sports (ICONS), the lawsuit aims to change NCAA rules, making biological males ineligible for women’s competitions and seeking damages for affected athletes.

Co-founders of ICONS emphasized the importance of preserving women’s sports integrity and upholding Title IX. Gaines condemned the NCAA’s lack of accountability, labeling them “morally bankrupt” and emphasizing the lawsuit’s aim to protect female athletes.
