If you spot someone wearing these shoes, stop what you’re doing and look around. You had probably better know what it means, I had no idea

Austrian computer scientists have unveiled InnoMake, a groundbreaking shoe designed to help blind people navigate obstacles.

Developed by Tec-Innovation and Graz University of Technology, these $3,000+ shoes feature waterproof ultrasonic sensors on each toe, detecting obstacles up to 13 feet away.

Vibrations and sounds warn wearers as they approach objects, similar to car parking sensors.

Markus Raffer, visually impaired co-founder of Tec-Innovation, praised its effectiveness. Each shoe can distinguish between walls, cars, and stairs, offering tailored alerts. Future updates aim to add camera-based recognition and machine learning, potentially providing a “street view navigation map.” InnoMake promises to significantly improve navigation for the visually impaired.
