California Shoppers React to 99 Cents Only Store Closures

California residents are voicing frustration over the closure of hundreds of 99 Cents Only stores across the Southwest.

Founded in California in 1982, the chain expanded to states like Nevada, Texas, and Arizona. Now, 371 stores are closing, with 265 in California alone.

Some blame Governor Newsom’s policies for making the state’s business environment challenging. Shoppers like Rick Juarez and Altagracia Nuñez lament the loss of affordable options for essentials and school supplies.

Victor Barrios emphasized the importance of low-priced goods for those on fixed incomes. Meanwhile, 99 Cents Only Stores cited challenges like inflation and retail theft as reasons for the closures.
