Isra Hirsi Suspended from Barnard College Over Gaza Solidarity Protest

Isra Hirsi, the daughter of Ilhan Omar, proudly announced her suspension from Barnard College in a tweet.

She claimed her suspension was for standing in solidarity with Palestinians and demanding divestment from companies she believes are complicit in “genocide.”

Hirsi led a group of students in an “unauthorized encampment” on Columbia University’s campus as part of Gaza Solidarity actions. The suspension denied them college facilities like housing and food.

The suspension was based on their refusal to end the encampment despite warnings from both Barnard and Columbia administrations. Groups like Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), involved in the protest, have been linked to supporting Hamas, including endorsing violence against Israeli civilians.
