Ukraine Aid Bill Raises Questions on U.S. Border Security Promises

Speaker of the House Mike Johnson’s recent spending bill allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to support Ukrainian border patrol agents, but no funds were designated for American border patrol or new border defense initiatives as promised.

In December 2023, Johnson had vowed to demand clarity on Ukraine aid and transformative changes at the U.S. border.

Despite passing a spending bill that included $95 billion for foreign countries, with $61 billion for Ukraine, Johnson’s promise to prioritize American border security seemed unfulfilled.

The bill’s passage sparked criticism, with Rep. Thomas Massie even calling for Johnson’s resignation. However, Johnson remains steadfast, stating he won’t resign and is focused on doing his job.
