Mom issues warning after 10-year-old son collapses after playing in the ocean

A Massachusetts mother, Heather Cassini, wants to warn others after her 10-year-old son Declan experienced hypothermia at Hampton Beach in New Hampshire on July 4.

Declan felt unwell and became disoriented after playing in the 52-degree ocean water, eventually collapsing. Bystanders, including nurses, helped keep him conscious until paramedics arrived.

Declan has since recovered, but Cassini emphasizes that even on hot summer days, cold water can cause hypothermia. She urges parents to be aware of this risk.

“I had no idea you could get hypothermia even on a hot summer day! This is such an important message to everyone, not just those with children.”
