The ‘Middle Wife’ STORY OF THE DAY.!

I’ve been teaching for about fifteen years, and one of the funniest things I’ve seen happened during show-and-tell. A bright little girl named Erica waddled up to the front of the class with a pillow under her sweater. She held up a picture of her baby brother and said, ‘This is Luke, and I’m going to tell you about his birthday.’

She explained how her dad put a seed in her mom’s stomach, and Luke grew there, eating through an ‘umbrella cord.’ Then she described her mom’s labor, complete with hilarious gestures and sound effects, calling the midwife the ‘middle wife.’ She even acted out the water breaking, and described her brother covered in ‘yucky stuff’ from the ‘play-center’ inside her mom.

When she finished with a dramatic bow, the class erupted in laughter, and I knew from then on to always have my camcorder ready for show-and-tell!
