Elton John snubbed Prince Harry’s Candle in the Wind request for Princess Diana

Prince Harry asked Elton John to perform “Candle in the Wind” on the anniversary of Princess Diana’s death, but Elton declined, calling it too “macabre.”

Instead, he sang “Your Song” at the 2007 tribute. In his memoir *Spare*, Harry recounts following his mother’s coffin and hearing Elton’s performance at her funeral. Elton, a close friend of Diana, has continued to support her sons, especially during controversies surrounding Harry and Meghan.
