School Warns Students Not To Chant ‘USA’, What Kids Do Instead

A California high school, Vista Del Lago in Folsom, faced controversy after asking students to avoid chanting “USA” at sports events, fearing it might be seen as intolerant. The chant, traditionally used to show pride, has been misused elsewhere.

Senior Ryan Bernal questioned the move, saying, “We’re all American.” The principal explained that the chant could send the wrong message but is allowed after the Pledge or national anthem. District officials clarified there’s no ban, but they encourage empathy and patriotism. Online reactions were strong, with one comment criticizing the school’s leadership.
