Marvel Announces Layoffs Amid Box Office Struggles
Disney’s Marvel is undergoing layoffs following a string of underperforming releases. The company plans to cut 15 positions across Marvel Studios in Burbank and Marvel Entertainment in New York.
This move follows a disappointing 2023 lineup and a decision to slow down releases supporting Disney+.
Disney is also integrating Marvel Entertainment more closely into its other divisions. Notably, the feminist-themed “The Marvels” was a significant box office flop, earning just $140 million globally against a $300 million budget.
Director Nia DaCosta attributed criticism to “sexists, racists, and homophobes,” despite the film attracting a 65% male audience.
