My Brother Wants Me to Pay for His Wedding, but I Won’t

I’m a 32-year-old woman who worked hard for everything I have. Growing up, my parents favored my younger brother Jake (29) while I had to be responsible. They paid for his hobbies, car, and rent, while I worked part-time jobs to support myself.

Now Jake is getting married and wants a big, expensive wedding. Our parents can’t afford it anymore, so they asked me to pay, saying, “Jake deserves this.” I refused, telling them Jake should figure it out himself. They didn’t take it well, saying “family helps family,” and now I’m being made to feel guilty.

Jake hasn’t said much, but he’s making passive-aggressive comments. While I could help financially, I don’t think I should. I worked hard for what I have, saved, and sacrificed. Jake hasn’t, and now I’m expected to pay for a wedding I didn’t even have for myself. Some friends think I should help, but I feel it’s not my responsibility.
