Denver Mayor Commits to Welcoming Illegal Immigrants Amid Resource Strain

Denver’s Democratic Mayor, Mike Johnston, remains steadfast in welcoming illegal immigrants despite the challenges faced by the city.

Since Biden’s inauguration, Denver has taken in over 38,000 illegal immigrants, averaging 200 arrivals daily since December 2022.

Mayor Johnston told CNBC’s “Cities of Success” that Denver aims to be a “welcoming city,” even amidst the strain on resources.

Facing a $60 million budget deficit, Denver has shut down some migrant shelters and sought assistance from private property owners. Johnston acknowledges the difficulty without federal aid but believes in Denver’s ability to integrate immigrants successfully with or without additional support.
