Shelby Daniele, a former standout athlete at Cal Poly and Buchanan High, passed away unexpectedly at 23, shortly after earning her master’s degree in agriculture. Her sudden death shocked family, friends, and the athletic communities in Fresno, California.

On September 26, 2024, Cal Poly Track and Field announced her passing via Instagram, honoring her five years as a dedicated athlete and team captain. They described her as “one of a kind” and noted her impactful contributions to the team.

Buchanan High School, where she gained recognition as a track star, also mourned her loss. They remembered her championship-winning performance at the 2019 California State Meet and her warm, generous nature. Her high school coach, Brian Weaver, praised her as a compassionate mentor who inspired younger athletes and remained involved with the program post-graduation.
